Is set of rules to be followed for solving a problem. The Google Algorithm is used to avoid the malpractice used by web page makers to gain web page ranking and to provide the best possible search results for users. 

Major Google algorithms are:

1) Panda Algorithm: It is the first major algorithm formed in 2011. It was formed against "content farming." Designed to reduce rank for low quality sites and to give better ranking for high quality sites. Panda 4.0, an updated version, was introduced in 2014.

2) Google Penguin: Was formed in Year 2012 against link spamming and manipulated link building practices like paid links, link exchange, link scheming, link farming, comment spamming, links from low quality websites, Wiki spamming, guest blogging etc. An updated version of this site was formed in 2016.

3) Pigeon Algorithm: This was formed in 2013 to boost local SEO services. To increase ranking parameters based on distance and location. To embed location in web pages, to register in local directories like Just dial, register in Google My Business pages are few examples to improve listing for local business .

4) Humming Bird Algorithm: launched in 2013 to give detailed user search results with reviews, feedback etc.

5) Rank Brain : launched in 2016, similar to Humming Bird but applies artificial intelligence (AI). Is to better understand user needs and provide more relevant search information with the closest matches possible.

6) Mobilegeddon: This was introduced in 2015 to give higher priority to mobile-friendly websites. Better content reading without horizontal scrolling or appropriately spaced tap targets, non-playable content removal etc.

7) AMP Algorithm: Accelerated Mobile Page, for faster access to web pages on mobile devices. It improves the performance of the web sites on mobile devices.

8) Park Doman Update: Avoids or filters domains created and parked without converting into web sites.

9) EMD Algorithms : Avoids or filters Exact Match Domains. Filters out domains with similar user search names but different contents.

10) Pirate Domain : Rolled out in 2012, was against web sites pirating some one else content like movies, articles etc. Site receiving number of removal notice , DMCA take down requests will appear lower in search results.

11) BERT Update: Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers, or BERT, is mainly language understanding, understanding complex phrases by processing words by relating them to all other words in a sentence.

12) Possum Update: Give importance to local search based on location and keywords.

13) Google Fred Update: Improving the quality of web sites by regulating advertisements and preventing over-advertising web pages.
